Award for Cancer Research with High Application Potential

The German Cancer Research Centre bestowed the Richtzenhain Award to Stephan Herzig of the German Cancer Research Centre. In his research, Dr Stephan Herzig identified numerous factors with a key role in controlling the metabolism of the liver. They thus directly affect the development of cancer risk factors, respectively of cancer after-effects (cachexia). These metabolic check points now can be tested as aims for new treatment methods. In an annual rotation system, the German Cancer Research Centre awards the Richtzenhain Award donated by the foundation of neurologist Walther Richtzenhain and his wife Christine to PhD students from Heidelberg research institutes and scientists from all over the Federal Republic of Germany for work in the field of translational cancer research. This year's award is endowed with 10,000 Euro.
