Turbulence structure under shear flows
Background: It is known that strong velocity flow shear can distort and break-up turbulence structures and hence affect the cross-field transport of plasma particles and energy. The impact of flow shearing is particularly evident in the formation of transport barriers associated with the high confinement H-mode in fusion confinement devices.
Goal: The detailed measurement of poloidal & radial turbulence correlation lengths, and the formation of turbulence eddy stretching in the tokamak plasma edge through confinement mode transitions.
