From research conducted at the Helmholtz-Zentrum Geesthacht Centre for Materials and Coastal Research

Their aim is to help decision-makers in politics, public administrations and the business community to understand and consider the dimensions of climate change. One project at the CSC entails assessing the potential losses to the German economy caused by extreme weather events. For example, as a result of climate change, heavy rains may increasingly lead to local flooding and the overflow of drainage canals. The current CSC study entitled “Heavy Rain Risk 2050” is attempting to determine the connection between heavy rains and insured damage and to estimate how these risks will develop against the backdrop of climate change. The public will have access to the study’s maps showing changes in heavy rainfall for all districts in Germany.
